Please contact Heather Parker, Health/Physical Education Teacher if you are interested in volunteering for the September 30th Abstinence Program. The coordinator from the Cobb County Commission on Youth and Children is looking for about 5 volunteers to help sell the “Big Talk” books from 7:45 - 8:30 PM. Please email Heather.Parker@cobbk12.org.
Welcome Parents, Students, Teachers and Guests to Barber Middle School PTSA website.
Another summer has come and gone and we have now been back to school for a week now. We would like to take the time to introduce the new PTSA Executive board members. Co-Presidents: Julie Biondi and Leslie Davids, Co-Vice Presidents Cathy Snider and Lisa Garrett, Co-secretaries Elaine Fudge and Mary Sierra and last but not least Treasurer: The great Tammy Pacheco. We have a great year scheduled and we are ready to see our students succeed. We have been at work since the summer bringing ideas together to make this the best year yet. As always, we need volunteers to make sure everything takes place and with 100% success. We love our volunteers and appreciate them very much. If you only have 20 minutes or would like to take things home to do for PTSA, let us know. No matter how small the project, it all adds up.
Budget cuts as we all know have taken tremendous tolls on our teachers and indirectly our students. I am sure by now some of your children maybe in an over crowded classroom or perhaps they have been switched a couple of times in homerooms or classrooms. I have spoken with Mrs. Williams and she would like for the PTSA to convey her message to you the parents. Please read below:
Barber Middle School Parent Message
I want to bring you a message regarding our enrollment and class size. As many of you may be aware, we are over our projected enrollment and some of our classes are unbalanced and overcrowded at this time. Your children have been very patient and understanding as we have made scheduling changes the past three days. We are working very hard to balance our classes to be sure we do not exceed the maximum class size in each subject and at each grade. We have been working with our Area Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Carter on allotments. We are even prepared to request additional teachers if that is what is necessary.
I want to thank you, as always, for your support of Barber Middle School. We hope to have all our scheduling modifications completed by the end of the week. We look forward to a great school year with all of you!
Sincerely,
Lisa O. Williams

PTSA

Now, although being a PTSA member is not synonymous to volunteerism and this is not what we are all about, we do encourage every parent, every child and every teacher to belong in the PTSA - why?
The #1 reason to join the PTSA is in doing so, you not only help and support your child with his or her education, but you’ll also become the school’s partner. And that’s not all, you can/will….
* Connect - know what’s happening in your child’s school.
* Discover Great Resources - the PTSA offers variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
* Tap into a Network - parenting is not easy, but you can share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTSA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers while building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.
* Watch Yourself Grow - by volunteering, you gain valuable experiences.
* Speak Up - because PTSA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTSA can be a way for you to effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
* Be a Role Model - by becoming a PTSA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
Last, but not least, a PTSA membership provides benefits to a card carrying PTSA member. Use your card to take advantage to valuable discounts to Alliance Theatre, Atlanta History Center, Barnes & Noble, Chattahoochee Nature Center, Fernbank, Honey Baked Ham, Party City, and more!
Ready to join or have questions, contact any PTSA officers. We welcome any suggestions (improvements, what you’d like to see happen), questions and or feedbacks for this coming school year and we will take your thoughts into careful consideration.
We hope you visit this site often for the latest news and information regarding our school, students, teachers and community news. Also, don’t forget to subcribe to our e-news if you haven’t already by clicking on the link above. Last, but not least, check out our BLOG!
Sincerely,
